Communications Are Simply Amazing
We have a lot to thank technology for, as we enjoy the different high-tech creature comforts that evolved from practically nothing. There is not a shadow of a doubt that communications is one of the greatest gifts technology has given to modern society.
Consider for a few moments all of the amazing forms of communications that have made your life easier and more full. Probably the first thing you will think of is the telephone. Even if you like to write letters once in a while, can you honestly imagine if letter writing and telegrams were the only way to communicate with people? Do you have your own stories of how you cannot live without communications, not the least of which is the telephone? Let me share you my stories with communications – every day I call my neighbors so we can schedule parties and talk about the latest world and showbiz news, but I can also get in touch with that lovely couple who stayed in our neighborhood for a year before moving to South America for work reasons.
If the telephone is not amazing enough in the world of communications, then how about those three Ws that have been making our lives easier these past 15 years or so? All it takes now is a single point and click of a mouse button (or maybe two), and voila, instant communication at the tip of our fingers. As a result, communications with the people we love and have to interact with has become so simple it’s ridiculous. You can send a message to a business partner in Tokyo and receive a reply within mere seconds. Magic.
The improvements in communications have opened up a world of possibility to people in the area of travel. Places that were once impossible to reach are now not only possible to reach but also convenient and quick. So next time you have to travel locally or overseas, take a moment to stop and observe the communications systems that make sure world travel is business as usual. The stress involved in an air traffic controller’s job is indescribable to begin with, but they would not be able to get the job done if not for the advanced and detailed communication systems they use in this present day.
With a less advanced system of communications, life would be different for individuals around the world, but life would also be different for countries and international relations. Imagine trying to keep the peace with an overseas country by the exchange of letters? It would take years, or even decades for communication to have any tangible results, to say little of the things that would have happened since the first correspondence. Chances are high that we would enjoy far fewer privileges to visit or move to other countries without a great communications system like what our world has in place.
You don’t have to stand up and yell “THANK YOU COMMUNICATIONS!” or write some song about it, but simply thinking about how it has made so many lives easier would be enough in recognizing its contributions to society.
